Travel Insurance

I have done quite a lot of research into travel insurance. Make sure you read the fine print. A number of companies, both cheap and expensive, basically will not cover your electronic equipment if you leave it in the car. Most say that they will not cover you if you leave the gear in the car unattended, regardless of whether it was hidden or locked away. How ridiculous is that when you are travelling in a 4wd in Africa! Do they expect you to lug your camera, laptop, mobile phone, sat phone, gps etc with you when you go to the beach or for a walk in a village? Surely that would put the gear even more at risk! Luckily I have found AAMI has a more sensible approach, and they say they will cover it so long as it was hidden from view and there is forced entry into the vehicle – fair enough.

Everyone’s needs though are different and what is important to me may not be important to someone else. There are a number of companies providing travel insurance to suit everyone’s differing needs and budgets. I spent a lot of time finding them all, so to make it easier I have listed some of them below.
