We have finally committed to hiring a vehicle, have made the booking and paid the deposit. Just have to hope now we have picked the right company and everything will be ok! (I’m sure it will). I’ve added an update to the vehicle page to explain how we decided to hire rather than buy a vehicle.
Stumbled across your website from The Africa Overland site…sounds like we are sort of following your footsteps. My wife has just been accepted to Univeristy of Wollongong for her final semester of her Masters of Education which will start in July 2011. We are Canadians who will use this to take an entire year off and after 5-6 months in Oz, are planning the exact same trip to Southern Africa as you are. Would be very interested to hear who and how the rental car experience went. We are stuggling with the idea of buying for a 6 to 8 month trip as well and found this place which would do a buy-back option but the cost between buying and reselling to them seemed steep.
